At Lomond View Elementary, our mission is to provide a supportive and engaging environment where all students reach their full potential. To make that possible, our dedicated educators spend their Wednesday afternoons "stretching themselves by 10%" through intensive professional learning sessions.
As we look back on the 2025-26 school year, here is a glimpse into the hard work your teachers have been doing behind the scenes to elevate the classroom experience.
Mastering the Art of Instruction
Our primary focus this year has been the New Art and Science of Teaching (NASOT) framework. Teachers have spent dozens of hours refining how they deliver content to ensure every student succeeds. Key highlights include:
Explicit Instruction: Training with Anita Archer’s "13 Elements," focusing on chunking content and providing frequent opportunities for students to respond.
Targeted Learning: Teachers worked in grade-level teams to map out units with clear "I can" statements, ensuring students know exactly what they are learning and how to show their success.
Literacy Routines: We implemented school-wide routines for "Most Common Words" and "Long Words" to support consistent, effective reading instruction across all grades.
Building a Positive School Culture
Learning isn't just about academics; it's about the environment. This year, we revisited our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) strategies.
Skill over Will: Our staff worked on reframing challenging behaviors as a "lack of skill, not a lack of will," focusing on growth and documentation through the Panorama system.
One Caring Adult: We dedicated time to sharing "2x10" experiences—a strategy where teachers spend two minutes a day for ten days building a personal connection with a student.
Innovation & Safety
We are staying ahead of the curve to keep our students safe and prepared for the future:
AI Framework: In March, our team underwent training on the new AI Framework to understand how to responsibly integrate new technology into the classroom.
Safety First: From "Utah ShakeOut" earthquake prep to regular lockdown and fire drills, our safety committee ensures we are ready for any situation.
The Heart of the Matter
During our sessions, we reflected on a powerful message from Olympian Lindsey Vonn: "The only failure in life is not trying". Your teachers have "jumped" into new challenges this year, from learning complex ELA unit planning to creating comprehensive classroom management plans.
We are so proud of our staff for their commitment to "Dare Greatly" for the sake of our students. Thank you for supporting Lomond View!
