Minutes for meeting on: February 3, 2020

Absent: Emily Mangum, Brittany McConkie and Brit Peterson

Welcome:  Jaclyn welcomed the group and then the time was turned over to Mr. Skeen to present .

PREVENT CHILD ABUSE UTAH training:

The PCAU training took place last week in the classrooms. The overall thoughts from the teachers and parents present and from the observations of Mr. Skeen was that it went well and it was age appropriate. Jaclyn mentioned that she had completed the parent training online from the link Mr. Skeen provided in the parent email. It was an informative course that took less than 30 minutes to complete. The website has a lot of helpful information.  https://pcautah.org/

BARK (new online safety/monitoring program):

The district will be sending out an email explaining what the program is and does this week (on Wednesday).  Mr. Skeen will be visiting grades 4th-6th to explain how this new software program will filter through the G-Suite programs (including Hangouts) and monitor their safety. The software does take into account the context. Principals and parents will be notified if something gets flagged. Principals receive a frequent daily report. Parents can purchase the program to monitor their home devices as well. BARK will flag things like: cyber-bullying, violence, weapons, profanity, sexual content, drug-alcohol references and more.

Update on current school TrustLand and TSSA plans:

Everything is going well.

NEW school TrustLand and TSSA plans:

  • CHANGES TO GOALS:
    • Goal #1 - Remove “3% increase” wording and change it to “70% of students will be at goal or above goal” on DIBELS testing. Remove the 4th-6th graders RISE testing from this goal. (Mr. Skeen will collect the last 3 years data on DIBELS and get back with us to see if 70% is the actual number we want for this.
    • Goal #2 - We will keep this goal as is for this year but we may want to change it next year based on data collected.
    • Goal #3 - We discussed making this goal as action steps in goals #1 and #2 but decided to leave it as its own goal.
    • Mr. Skeen will make these changes to the new plan and send all Community Council members a copy to read through. An email vote will take place at that time to approve the 2020-2021 plan.

Other comments:

  • Hope Squads are starting in the elementary schools next Fall. We are still keeping Peer Leaders. They will have different jobs.
  • We are hoping to get LCSW (licensed clinical social workers) into our elementary school to fulfill the rising need to help our students socially/emotionally.
  • Mr. Skeen will be implementing the Leader in Me program in the next few years. There will be funding from a grant available to use soon to help with start up costs for this.
  • Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Johnson mentioned bringing back the Marvin and Jessie plays to the school which could help address the social/emotional needs of students.

ASSIGNMENT FOR COUNCIL MEMBERS:

Be sure to watch for the email for the Lomond View TrustLands plan for 2020-2021 to read through and vote on (via email). Our February 27th meeting is canceled and we will meet again on April 20th to get updates on the current plan.
