Letter from the Principal

justin

Dear Parents,

We appreciate your participation in our recent school fundraiser. We are collecting the remaining sales for a total on how much money we raised. These funds will be used to purchase Chromebook carts and headphones.

Currently, we have 6 Chromebook carts that are shared throughout the building. This will change next year with a cart that will stay in every classroom. We are really excited to announce that in the 2019-20 school year we will have a Chromebook for each student in 2nd-6th grade (possibly 1st grade) and an ipad for students in Kindergarten-1st. These devices will stay at school. Technology will not replace the teacher in any way, but it will be used to create additional opportunities for learning and collaboration. This is an exciting time in education! We will hold a parent night the end of April/First of May to share information on the great ways we will be using technology. In the meantime, feel free to visit our district website at www.wsd.net and click on WSD Ascend in the top right corner for additional information.

In preparation for having these additional devices our teachers and staff are working hard to participate in training on how to efficiently use the google resources that are available to support their instruction. In addition, we will look at how the technology effectively works with our curriculum to help students master their essential grade level standards.

The end of the 3rd quarter is on Friday, March 15th. This day we will be on a Wednesday schedule to provide teachers with time to finish report cards to send home. Wednesday, March 27th is our Kindergarten roundup. We want to make sure we locate all of our students who will be attending kindergarten next year. If you know of any student who will turn 5 on or before September 1st please contact our office at (801) 452-4780. We appreciate your ongoing support!

Sincerely,

Justin Skeen

Principal

We're looking forward to an exciting year of discovery robotics! We will be meeting the following dates from 7:30-8:20am in the school lunchroom: March 15, March 29

We are SO excited to have about 120 kids joining us this year! With that said, we would LOVE to have any parents who would be available to help out join us! No need to have any experience/knowledge of robotics! If you would be available or willing to help out on any of these dates, please let us know by responding to the email below so we can plan our activities accordingly. Thank you so much, and we look forward to working with your kids!

If you have signed up and haven't received a robotics email please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Parenting the Love and Logic Way

love and logic dec11

Healthy Relationships Utah offers free research-based relationship education courses throughout the state of Utah as part of Utah State University Extension. One of USU's missions as a land grant university is to give back to the community the knowledge and research we gain. These free courses are just one of many ways that Utah State University accomplishes this mission.

Parenting the Love and Logic Way®

This FREE course uses the Parenting the Love and Logic Way® curriculum and teaches parents how to raise responsible kids and enjoy parenting. Participants will learn how to end power struggles with their children, teach responsibility, and prevent arguments. This course will help participants answer questions like:

· Is it possible to parent without getting angry?

· How do I enforce limits?

· What are natural or logical consequences?

· Can parenting be less stressful?

Through ready to use take-home-skills this course will enhance your relationship with your child, reduce the strain in your family life, and help you enjoy parenting! This researched-based program by Jim Fay, Dr. Charles Fay, & Dr. Foster Cline helps parents defuse arguments and build their children's sense of responsibility and confidence.

When asked what they liked most about this course past participants have said:

"All of it. Funny!"

"I liked that it tells you ways to go about teaching without raising your voice."

"How to have them [children] solve problems. How to neutralize arguing. And how to use empathy. (Love it.)"

"Knowing that other parents are dealing with the same problems and that there are constructive ways to handle them."

"That they gave helpful tools to use in everyday life."

"How to become an awesome mother."

"It was upbeat and entertaining while being informative and helpful."

"Everything seriously I learned more than I expected."

Safety During Drop off and Pick up

 transportmap

Here are some basic policies at the school:

1. Don’t park in the red zones. If you need to come into the school for any reason during drop off or pick up times, please use the parking lot to the north of the school.

2. If you are picking up your student after school, pull to the curb and turn off your engine. I learned recently that our children are more susceptible to toxins from idling cars because they take in more air per minute than adults do. Let’s keep them healthy by turning off the cars (AND TRUCKS) while waiting for them to come out.

3. If coming from the north, use the parking lot to pick up.

4. If coming from the south use the church parking lot, 900 W. and the front turn around to pick up children.

5. Don’t block the pull through lane in front of the school waiting for students, it is meant to be used for cars that are pulling through.

If you would like to be more involved, join the PTA. We are excited for next year and we need your help! Please contact Lacey Empey if you are interested: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

*Please remember there is no parking on 900 W. in front of the school (red zones) during drop off and pick up hours. If you need to drop off your students between 8:15 and 8:30- you may use the upper parking lot (on the North).
