Dear Parents/Guardians and Patrons,

We are really excited to begin a new school year. We look forward to providing multiple opportunities to engage, support and motivate students in their learning.

The purpose of this letter is to provide information/resources that will help you prepare for your child to begin a new school year. We’ve included below a suggested list of instructional items/school supplies (by grade – K-6th) our students will utilize during the 2019-20 school year. NOTICE: The items on this list will be used during the regular school day. These items may be brought from home on a voluntary basis, otherwise, they will be furnished by the school. A student may be required to replace supplies provided by the school which are lost, wasted, or damaged by the student through careless or irresponsible behavior.

We welcome any/all donations (supplies and/or $) on behalf of our students! (All donations we receive will be utilized during the regular school day, during instructional activities). Monetary/cash donations may be used to help us fund field trips and/or other learning activities we feel are important in helping our students grow and develop and to purchase instructional resources for our students. Monetary/cash donations in any amount under $250 may be mailed/dropped off to the office. Donations over $250 must run through the Weber School Foundation for tax-related purposes.

When donating to the Weber School Foundation, indicate you’d like the donation to benefit Lomond View Elementary School.

There may some changes to field trips, but below are the field trips currently planned:

2- Living Aquarium, Dinosaur Park, Gibson Family Farm, Nature Center, Storytelling Festival, Gateway Discovery Museum, Willow Park, Barker Park.

Parenting the Love and Logic Way

love and logic dec11

Healthy Relationships Utah offers free research-based relationship education courses throughout the state of Utah as part of Utah State University Extension. One of USU's missions as a land grant university is to give back to the community the knowledge and research we gain. These free courses are just one of many ways that Utah State University accomplishes this mission.

Parenting the Love and Logic Way®

This FREE course uses the Parenting the Love and Logic Way® curriculum and teaches parents how to raise responsible kids and enjoy parenting. Participants will learn how to end power struggles with their children, teach responsibility, and prevent arguments. This course will help participants answer questions like:

· Is it possible to parent without getting angry?

· How do I enforce limits?

· What are natural or logical consequences?

· Can parenting be less stressful?

Through ready to use take-home-skills this course will enhance your relationship with your child, reduce the strain in your family life, and help you enjoy parenting! This researched-based program by Jim Fay, Dr. Charles Fay, & Dr. Foster Cline helps parents defuse arguments and build their children's sense of responsibility and confidence.

"I liked that it tells you ways to go about teaching without raising your voice."

"How to have them [children] solve problems. How to neutralize arguing. And how to use empathy. (Love it.)"

"Knowing that other parents are dealing with the same problems and that there are constructive ways to handle them."

"That they gave helpful tools to use in everyday life."

"How to become an awesome mother."

"It was upbeat and entertaining while being informative and helpful."

Safety During Drop off and Pick up

Here are some basic policies at the school:

1. Don’t park in the red zones. If you need to come into the school for any reason during drop off or pick up times, please use the parking lot to the north of the school.

2. If you are picking up your student after school, pull to the curb and turn off your engine. I learned recently that our children are more susceptible to toxins from idling cars because they take in more air per minute than adults do. Let’s keep them healthy by turning off the cars (AND TRUCKS) while waiting for them to come out.

3. If coming from the north, use the parking lot to pick up.

4. If coming from the south use the church parking lot, 900 W. and the front turn around to pick up children.

5. Don’t block the pull through lane in front of the school waiting for students, it is meant to be used for cars that are pulling through.

If you would like to be more involved, join the PTA. We are excited for next year and we need your help! Please contact Lacey Empey if you are interested: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
